Orono Fair opens Thursday Print

Nothing says fall is approaching quite like the arrival of agricultural fairs, and Clarington is home to one of the largest in Ontario.

The Orono Fair runs from September 8th to 11th, and is one of the oldest running fairs in theĀ  province, as well as a large tourist draw for Durham Region.

Dating back to 1851, the current version of the fair is put on by the Orono Agricultural Society and is held at the Orono Fair Grounds.

The event features everything you''d expect from a country fall fair, including agricultural and livestock exhibits, lots of food, crafts, a midway, and musical entertainment.

Legendary country music performer Fred Eaglesmith rounds out the fair's music bill, which also includes The Ginn Sisters, the Charles Street Band and the Dixie Land Band, among others.

As part of the fair there will be a Great War fighter demonstration over the skies of Orono, an antique tractor pull, and petting zoos, as well as numerous agriculturally themed demonstrations and shows.
