Clarington manufacturers are invited to learn more about the upcoming HST at a seminar being hosted by Durham Region.

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Economic Development and Tourism Department, in partnership with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA), will be holding the free HST Information Seminar for Manufacturers on Tuesday, May 11.

The HST Information Seminar for Manufacturers will help manufacturing businesses in Durham Region make a smooth and successful transition to the impending harmonized sales tax (HST), which takes effect on July 1 in Ontario. The seminar will feature speakers from the Ministry of Revenue, as well as the CRA, discussing the wind-down of provincial sales tax (PST) and the transitional rules for HST.

"The Ontario government's harmonization of our taxes is another step toward the ultimate goal of making manufacturers in Durham Region more competitive," says Liisa Ikavalko, Manager, Economic Development for Durham Region. "This seminar is intended to help our manufacturers with the transition to a unified tax environment."

Topics of discussion at this event will include how HST may affect businesses, GST/HST rules, transitional rules for tangible and intangible personal property, transitional rules for services, as well as point-of-sale rebates.

The HST Information Seminar for Manufacturers will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road E., Whitby, Room LL-C.
