Highway pot bust in Courtice Print

An estimated $195,000 worth of pot was seized after a routine traffic stop in Courtice by Durham cops, resulting in the arrest of a Montreal resident.

According to the Durham Regional Police, officers observed a motorist driving under the posted speed limit on Highway 401 in Clarington and behaving in a suspicious manner at 1:15 am on January 15, 2010. The officers stopped the vehicle near Courtice Road in the Municipality of Clarington and approached the driver; a strong odour of marijuana was detected from inside the vehicle. The lone male driver would not cooperate with police instructions to lower the driver’s side window for conversation or to exit the vehicle which resulted in an officer’s arm became trapped in the driver’s window. The window was smashed to free the officer’s arm and the driver was subsequently arrested.

Officers seized a total weight of 43 pounds of marijuana from within the rental vehicle with an estimated street value of $195,790.
