Bowmanville man dies in crash Print

Durham Police report that a 23-year-old male has died as a result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Taunton Road east of Rundle Road in Courtice.

On Saturday Dec 1st, 2012 at 3:38 a.m. officers from the Central East and East Divisions responded to a collision on Taunton Road east of Rundle Road in Courtice (in the Municipality of Clarington). A Pontiac Grand Prix, being operated by a 20-year-old Orono woman, was westbound on Taunton Road East when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the centre line and struck an eastbound Chevrolet Cobalt head on. The Cobalt was being operated by a 23-year-old male from Bowmanville, Ontario, who had to be extricated from the vehicle by Clarington Fire.

Both parties were transported from the scene by Durham EMS to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville with serious, life-threatening injuries. The 20-year-old female was stabilized and transported by Durham EMS to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where she remains in serious condition. The 23-year-old male succumbed to his injuries at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville.

The deceased male has been identified as Timothy Smith, age 23, of Freeland Avenue in Bowmanville.

The roadway was closed for several hours while the Durham Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit collected evidence in relation to the incident. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
