Lionel Richie coming to Boots and Hearts Print

Lionel Richie is joining a number of country superstars coming to Clarington this summer.

The Boots and Hearts Music Festival, which will be held at Bowmanville's Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 10-12,  today announced that music icon Lionel Richie will be performing at the event.

Richie has earned sales of more than 100 million albums, 22 Top 10 hits, five Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Golden Globe and a host of other awards from virtually every other major entertainment organization.

Terri Clark, the hit-maker and Canadian country music staple, will also join the star-studded line-up to wow fans with her six Number One hits as well as songs from her eighth studio album, Roots and Wings.

Rounding out the line-up, Boots and Hearts has also added JUNO nominee Danny Michel, Canadian Idol runner-up Jaydee Bixby, Jason Jones, Tim Chiasson, and some of Canada's most exciting undiscovered artists in Alex Galli, Tim Hicks, The Hollowbodies, Hannah Chaplain, Martha Meredith and The Stone Sparrows.

“We are truly thrilled to have Lionel Richie perform on the same night as Carrie Underwood, and couldn’t be more excited about all great new additions to the line-up” said Shannon McNevan, partner and executive director, Republic Live, the promoter and producer of the festival. “Country music fans are in for a memorable festival. Where else could you see such a wide-range of talent like Tim McGraw, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow and Alabama – all while camping with friends or family? ”

Richie’s latest certified platinum album Tuskegee features 13 timeless hits performed as duets with top country stars. Named for his hometown in Alabama, this is the second-biggest selling album of the year. With it recently rocketing to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200, Richie now joins Ray Charles as the only other artists in history to have a No. 1 album on both the Billboard Country Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

Festival-goers attending the family friendly event will be able to camp under the stars with thousands of others at one of the best festival grounds in North America, while seeing shows from more than 30 international and Canadian artists on two stages.
