Police targetting thefts from cars in Clarington Print

Durham Regional Police officers from East Division are conducting a proactive initiative to address incidents of theft from vehicles and mischief in four areas of Clarington.

The areas include neighbourhoods surrounding: Aspen Springs Drive, Rhonda Boulevard, Mearns Avenue, and Longworth Avenue.

Over the past three months these areas have seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles, property damage, graffiti, mischief to private property and fires.

For the month of June, officers will be out on foot in these areas in the early morning hours, checking for unlocked vehicles that will likely be targeted for theft. They will also be handing out neighbourhood alert pamphlets containing important information concerning crime prevention.

Individuals responsible for these incidents, likely reside or travel through the areas and officers are asking the public for information that may assist in identifying those responsible.

For more information please contact Staff Sergeant Sean Fitzgerald of East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1688. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
