Snowmobile thief nabbed after pursuit Print

Durham Regional Police managed to nab a snowmobile thief after a pursuit on Monday morning.

On Monday February 6, 2012 at approximately 4:50 a.m. a resident of Nash Road in Clarington contacted 911 to report a suspect had entered his residential garage and had fled on his 2007 Yamaha snowmobile. East Division officers responded to the scene and observed the lone suspect fleeing the vicinity at a high rate of speed. Officers maintained visual contact with the suspect who refused to stop for the responding officer when emergency lights were activated. The suspect was observed travelling into a field near Taunton Road and Holt Road, where he dismounted the snowmobile and ran further into the field on foot.

Officers set up a perimeter and requested a K-9 Unit to attend for a ground search. The suspect was apprehended by K-9 following an exhaustive search on difficult terrain. The suspect received a minor bite wound upon arrest and received immediate medical treatment.

Officers seized the stolen snowmobile.

This male is also responsible for several entries into garages on Hancock Road between Bloor and Highway Two in Clarington since October 2011.

A 33 year old resident of Hancock Road in Clarington is charged with: Impaired Operation; Exceed .08 Mg; Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000; Possession of a Controlled Substance x2; Flee From Police; Breach Probation x2; Drive While Disqualified x2; Break and Enter – Commit x3; Theft Over $5,000; Attempt Break and Enter andTrespass by Night. . The accused was held for a bail hearing.
