Arrest for Bowmanville graffiti Print

Durham Regional Police recently arrested a local teenager in relation to several recent graffiti incidents within Bowmanville.

Since early August, 2011, several incidents of graffiti, in which the suspect had marked public and private properties were reported throughout Bowmanville. The graffiti consisted of the words Culprit and Culprit Gang.

On September 2, 2011, CRU members arrested a 15-year-old male following their investigation into these incidents. The 15 year old accused from Bowmanville is charged with: Mischief Under $5,000 x2 and was released on an Undertaking with conditions. The identity of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Durham Regional Police point out that defacing public and private property with unwanted graffiti is not a victimless crime. It adversely affects the property owner, who faces costs to clean it up and affects the quality of life of citizens who believe the graffiti degrades the look of neighborhoods.
