Region looking for incinerator committee members Print

The Region of Durham is seeking volunteers from Durham Region for a committee that will play an advisory role on the recently approved Energy to Waste facility in Courtice.

According to the Region, the Energy from Waste - Waste Management Advisory Committee (EFW-WMAC) will meet on a quarterly basis and act in an advisory role to the Durham Works Committee on issues or concerns which arise with waste diversion, waste management, environmental performance and monitoring of the waste incinerator facility, including the construction and operational phases. The terms of reference for this committee can be viewed at www.durhamyorkwaste.ca.

The committee will be comprised of nine members. The Region of Durham will be selecting five residents of Durham Region to participate on the committee and the Municipality of Clarington will select four residents from the Municipality of Clarington.

Interested residents, whom reside in Durham Region, must provide a detailed resume with a cover letter outlining their interest and their qualifications in being appointed to this committee. The submission of additional information on why they should be selected for membership, detailing their knowledge of the EFW process, the Environmental Assessment and certificate of approval will be considered. Previous participation or experience with committees/working groups will be considered an asset.

Submissions must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011.
