All day kindergarten in Clarington PDF Print E-mail

All day kindergarten is coming to a pair of Clarington schools, both of them Bowmanville.

Central Public School and St. Elizabeth Catholic School were the two Clarington school chosen to take part in an Ontario wide roll out of the full-day kindergarten option.

Classes are to start in the fall of 2010. All schools in the province are expected to be running all day kindergarten classes by the fall of 2015.

"The implementation of full day kindergarten in our Catholic schools is really welcome news", says John Mackie, Director of Education for the Peterborough victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board. "The time a child spends in kindergarten is among the most critical in his or her life to influence learning. This program represents a truly important piece of the child development puzzle."

"Quality early learning opportunities provide children with a greater chance for success and achievement throughout life," says Rusty Hick, Director of Education at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. "We look forward to implementing this program throughout all the schools in our board over the next few years."
